Luce Gallery è lieta di annunciare la prima personale europea dell'artista indiano T. Venkanna.

La narrativa di T. Venkanna assume varie forme traducendosi in costellazioni di immagini, collage, plastiche, allegoria, pittura. Benché utilizzi spesso un repertorio di figure erotiche la sua arte non ha intenti deliberatamente provocatori. Destabilizzando le tradizionali nozioni di genere e sessualità, la sua arte invita il pubblico a valutare se il concetto stesso di identità sia auspicabile o persino difendibile.

I graffiti e gli slogan liberamente dipinti sulla superficie della tela richiamano l'attenzione sulla natura teatrale e costruita delle opere, stimolando l'osservatore a riflettere invece di reagire in modo esclusivamente emotivo all'estetica di ciò che ha di fronte.

In NERO l'artista amplia la categoria del bello appropriandosi del colore per raffigurare ad esempio la dea che emerge dalle acque, spiegando così come l'idea di bellezza sia una categoria del sapere creata dall'uomo, più che una realtà intrinseca.

L'artista incoraggia l'osservatore ad andare oltre il dato tangibile per scoprire gli aspetti nascosti ma potenzialmente più significativi dell'io, anche attraverso la reinterpretazione di soggetti classici per snodarsi attraverso la propria visione della bellezza a volte appunto estrapolata simbolicamente da un contesto scolastico per renderla accessibile a un pubblico più vasto.

T Venkanna è nato nel 1980 a Gajwel, vive e lavora a Baroda, India.

Luce Gallery is proud to announce the first european solo exhibition devoted to the Indian artist T Venkanna.

The artist's narrative takes various forms, expressing itself through constellations of images, collage, plastics, allegory, painting. Although he uses both erotic and sexual imagery extensively in his work, he is not deliberately trying to provoke the viewer. Destabilizing received notions of gender and sexuality, his art invites the audience to examine whether fixed notions of identity are desirable or even tenable.

The graffiti and slogans painted liberally on the surface of the canvas draw attention to the created theatricality and constructed nature of the works. 
The audience is thus provoked to reflect rather than respond solely with emotion to the aesthetic of what they are seeing.

In NERO (Black), Venkanna broadens the category of the beautiful through the use of the colour black for the Goddess emerging from the sea, thereby illustrating that the idea of beauty is a man-made category of knowledge rather than an inherent reality.

The artist encourages the viewer to go beyond the tangible, to the hidden but potentially more meaningful aspects of selfhood. His reinterpretations of classical subjects reflect his personal vision of beauty, which is symbolically taken out of a scholarly environment to make it accessible to a wider audience.

T Venkanna was born in 1980 in Gajwel; he lives and works in Baroda, India.
